Why BMW?
BMW M is the division that wrote the compact-performance canon. The M3 lineage ran from the S54 inline-six in the E46, through the naturally aspirated S65 V8 in the E92, to the turbocharged S55 in the F80 and the S58 in the G80. In parallel the M5 evolved from the S62 V8 in the E39 to the twin-turbo S63 V8 in the F90, while the cult 1M Coupé (E82) and the M2 (from the F87 with the S55 to the G87 with the S58) brought the purest rear-drive form into the range.
USS Tokyo, USS Nagoya and HAA Kobe surface dozens of BMW M cars a week, a large share in LHD individually specified in Japan. The Japanese market prizes precise servicing and low mileage, so examples turn up here that are hard to find in Europe: an E46 M3 with a manual and a complete history, low-mileage 1M Coupé, and occasionally a Z8 or a Z4 M (S54). A solid E46 M3 in grade 4.5 starts at ¥3M hammer, while the 1M Coupé commands a multiple of that.
What we do exceptionally well. Our inspector visits every BMW we seriously bid on — verifying original paint with a coating-thickness gauge, the completeness of the M package, and the service history. On the sheet we look for any engine or body swap (on the S65 we know the typical rod-bearing weak spots, on the S54 the VANOS condition), and on the 1M and M2 we check for track and drift wear. Cars sourced from Japan are usually in better shape than their European counterparts: lower mileage, garaged, and a meticulous service culture.
