M3.
The icon of M.
The M3 is the performance version of the 3 Series and the most recognisable model in the M division. The first-generation E30 used a homologation-bred inline-four, while the E36 and E46 established the reign of the inline-six with a manual gearbox. The E92 was the only M3 with a naturally aspirated V8, after which the F80 and G80 returned to a turbocharged inline-six. The manual is part of the model's DNA and remains available even on the latest variants. The M3 appears at Japanese auctions across all generations.

Which generation to choose?
E30 (1986–1991)
The first M3, with the S14 inline-four built for touring-car homologation. Today it is the most valuable and rarest generation, a true collector item.
E36 and E46 (1992–2006)
The inline-six era. The E46 with the S54 and a manual is rated one of the great classic driver's cars, and the CSL version is especially sought after.
E92 (2007–2013)
The only M3 with the naturally aspirated S65 V8, offered as coupe, saloon and convertible. Its high-revving character makes it unique in the model's history.
F80 and G80 (2014 onward)
A return to a turbocharged inline-six — S55 in the F80, S58 in the G80. Powerful, everyday-usable and still available with a manual and, on the G80, with xDrive.
